Breeding/Development: Developed by Yakima Chief Ranches and released in 2000, Simcoe® (YCR 14) is known for its brewing versatility and unique aroma characteristics. It continues to rise in popularity becoming one of the top ten varieties in the craft and home brewing industries.
Brewing Application: Dual purpose. Simcoe has a high enough alpha for bittering additions, but as a late addition or dry hop its fruity characteristics come through. Very popular in American IPAs.
Sensory: Strong notes of citrus (grapefruit) with pine resin, stone fruit and in later additions more berry, passionfruit and hints of bubblegum.
