June Malt of The Month: Weyermann Barke Pilsner

Weyermann® Barke Pilsner malt is crafted from the Barke varietal of barley. Developed by the Julius Kühn-Institut in Germany in 1993, Barke barley boasts excellent malting properties and holds historical significance in brewing. Brewers highly value its abundant enzyme content, reliable germination rates, and exceptional modification.

The malt is particularly favored in the brewing of Pilsners, Helles, and Oktoberfest beers. However, it can also be employed in other styles, including pale ales and IPAs.

June Bottle Share

June 8th, 7:15 PM at Gnome Brew

Join us for our monthly bottle share at the shop. Just bring a couple bottles of your homebrewed beer, cider, wine, mead, or whatever to share with others. If you're new to homebrewing or just don't have any spare bottles, don't worry—you're welcome to come.

Bottle shares are a great opportunity to try others' homebrews, get feedback on your own homebrew, and trade tips, tricks and stories. But mostly, it's a time to hang out and have fun with fellow beer lovers.

This is a free event. No registration required.

New Recipe Kit:
New England IPA

Hazy, juicy and full-bodied, with notes of peach and mango, 7.6% ABV

Inspired by beers such as: The Alchemist Heady Topper, Maplewood Son of Juice, Tree House Julius

New England IPAs are characterized by hazy appearance, juicy flavor, and low bitterness. They feature hops that impart fruity flavors, and are dry-hopped to enhance the hop aroma.

This particular NEIPA is typically golden or orange in color, and it has a thick, creamy head. The aroma is intense and fruity, with notes of peach, mango, and citrus. The flavor is juicy and refreshing, with a smooth, full-bodied mouthfeel. A great choice for people who enjoy hoppy beers, but don't like the high bitterness of traditional IPAs.

Available in 2.5 gallon 1 Hour and 5 gallon 3 Hour sizes for pickup, local Friday delivery or shipping.

Hop Sampler: Vista (6% ABV)

Vista hops are a new American variety released in 2021 by the USDA's public breeding program. They were bred from a cross between Perle and an unknown male hop, and they are known for their high yields and unique aroma profile. Vista hops have a moderate bitterness of 11-13% alpha acids, but their main contribution is to the aroma of the beer.

Vista has strong notes of citrus, tropical fruit, and stone fruit, with hints of herbal and floral notes.  They are best used in styles of beer that showcase their aroma, such as IPAs, pale ales, and wheat beers. They can also be used in lagers and pilsners to add a touch of citrus and tropical fruit flavor.

Classic NEIPA (6.2% ABV)

A hazy, golden-orange beer with intense tropical fruit and citrus aromas and flavors. Dry hopped with Galaxy, Citra, and Mosaic hops for a juicy, yet slightly dry and bitter finish. A “classic” take on the New England IPA.

MOTM: Kölsch Featuring Barke Pilsner (5.3% ABV)

A soft, crisp yet slightly fruity classic Kölsch using our June Malt of the Month, Wyermann Barke Pilsner as a base  malt.  Simple yet complex.
