Inspired by beers such as: Guinness Draught, O'Hara's Irish Stout, Harpoon Boston Irish Stout
The Irish Stout is a low-ABV ale known for its dark appearance, creamy tan head, and smooth, highly drinkable character. Though malt-forward in profile, it is notably less sweet than its American counterparts, offering a balanced flavor with moderate hop bitterness and minimal hop aroma. Its signature dry finish and deep color come primarily from the use of unmalted roasted barley, rather than a blend of caramel and roasted malts. This recipe stays true to the drier style but incorporates a small amount of caramel malt to add subtle richness and a smoother mouthfeel than typically found in examples like Guinness Draught.

Simply Brewing® 1 Hour Recipe Kits contain all the ingredients for new and experienced brewers to easily brew 2.5 gallons of beer in a simple, 1-hour brewday with the use of a 1 Hour Equipment Kit and any 10+ quart stovetop pot. The brew process involves dissolving malt extract into heated water, steeping bags of milled grain (if applicable), boiling and/or steeping bags of hop pellets, and cooling the wort (unfermented beer) in a sink to be added to your fermentation vessel. The wort is then topped off with chilled water for an even faster cool, and the yeast is added. All this, including cleanup, takes just 1 hour!
