Sacks Are Sold Unopened and Unmilled OnlyWeyermann Barke Pilsner is made from an heirloom varietal 2-Row summer barley. This unique character expresses itself as a more flavorful Pilsner-style malt. It retains its pale straw color, but contributes a more pronounced sweetness, with hints of toffee and nuts, than a normal Pilsner malt.
Developed by the Julius Kühn Institut in 1993, Barke barley's makeup has several benefits in the brewhouse. Due to its highly reliable germination rates, Barke Pilsner retains a high level of enzymes ensuring a generous supply of fermentable sugars. It's low protein content and lower levels of beta-glucan also help reduce haze formation in the finished beer.
