West Coast IPA - 1 Hour Recipe Kit

$49.99

A classic IPA with plenty of citrus, pine and hop bitterness

Inspired by beers such as: Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra IPA, Lagunitas IPA, Bell’s Two-Hearted Ale

The West Coast IPA beer style is renowned for its bold and hop-forward character. West Coast IPAs exhibit a deep golden to amber color and a clear appearance. They are known for their prominent hop aromas, often showcasing citrus, pine, and resinous notes. This recipe is dry-hopped* (adding hops directly to the fermenter rather than the boil) to enhance the hop aroma. The bitterness in West Coast IPAs is assertive, with a strong malt backbone that provides balance. The style is loved for its intense flavors, high alcohol content, and the lingering hop bitterness that defines it.

*Dry-hopping is a delicate process, with a high risk of oxidation (exposure of beer to oxygen which results in a cardboard off-flavor and browning in color). As such, unless great care is taken this recipe is not recommended for first-time brewers.

Simply Brewing® 1 Hour Recipe Kits contain all the ingredients for new and experienced brewers to easily brew 2.5 gallons of beer in a simple, 1-hour brewday with the use of a 1 Hour Equipment Kit and any 10+ quart stovetop pot. The brew process involves dissolving malt extract into heated water, steeping bags of milled grain (if applicable), boiling and/or steeping bags of hop pellets, and cooling the wort (unfermented beer) in a sink to be added to your fermentation vessel. The wort is then topped off with chilled water for an even faster cool, and the yeast is added. All this including cleanup takes just 1 hour!
